How Do Napa Snakes Eat?
One of the most common question that most people ask about wildlife creatures is how do Napa snakes eat? Even most of the humans have a fear of snakes; however, these species are somewhere useful for our fields as they eat up rodents that otherwise cause great destruction to the crops. Some of the major targets of snakes are cockroaches, mice, and rats.
Studies show that there are more than 2700 snake species all over the world but very few of them are venomous. These creatures live on a variety of diet, and it varies as per their size and habitat conditions. Some snakes can also attack less harmful animals as well. For example, in a recent study, Burmese Python’s stomach was found containing some parts of deer in Florida. This large snake not even killed the dear but has digested all his parts inside the stomach. This incident is a proof to the saying that snakes can eat their prey as a whole. There are so many wild snakes that can consume anything that fits their jaws with ease. The list can include lizards, eggs, frogs, toads, rabbits, chickens, birds, goats and even other snakes.
Now you might be thinking how California snakes can eat a big animal with their tiny head. Actually, the fact is that snakes have the ability to open their jaws up to wider dimensions by unhinging them. This action makes them able to target larger preys with ease, and they can consume their food easily like lions and other big predators. Note that snakes cannot chew their prey as their teeth are not able to do so. The venomous snakes simply add their venom to the body of the prey and wait until the prey become paralyzed or die. Once the prey is enabled to save itself, the snake will grip it and swallow them completely.
One of the most commonly found snakes in North America is Garter Snake that is often found in forests, meadows, marshlands and can even visit residential areas such as gardens and yards. These snakes are found in a variety of colors such as dark brown, black, olive green, bright green, blue, and yellow, etc. These snake species prefer to target salamanders, toads, insects, and earthworms. They also try to catch other rodents and small mammals including voles and mice etc. As these snakes often keep on visiting water-rich areas, so crayfishes are also included in their target list. The baby garter snakes can feed on earthworms, crickets, mealworms, etc until they are not able to target the larger preys. Note that a female garter snake can give birth to around 20 babies at once.
